HOW I MET MY SOUL SISTER
(Free Reflection 2)
My heart and this tiny piece of writing goes to my
very best, irreplaceable friend, Gülçin.
I want to talk about the story of how I met one of
my favourite people because I have always thought this story is very special. Gülçin
and I may not have had the perfect start for our friendship, but we sure have
one that is unforgettable and one that we will be telling our kids. Whenever this
comes up, we laugh at how stupid we used to be. Anyways, I should get started. When
we first started high school, I volunteered and became the monitor. I was writing
the names of those who talked too much and did not wait for the teacher decently
on the board. Two weeks after the school started this girl came to our school
and was famous already. She changed two classes before she ended up in my class.
I had a feeling about this girl. I simply didn’t like her. She was told to be
very good at English. That meant rivalry to me. Then one day as I was trying to
get my friends inside the class after the bells rang, I told Gülçin to come in,
I said the teacher would be coming in a minute. But she was out there talking
to some of her friends. She didn’t care what I was trying to say. I do not remember
exactly but I guess I insisted. Then she said the thing that would light a fire
and make me crazy. She said ‘mal mısın…’ I was very mad at her but I didn’t
start a fight. Anyways, I don’t know what happened but somethings got us closer
and closer. We began discovering that we could get along really well as we
shared the same interests and had quite the same kind of humor. I mean, we
sang together everywhere, we completed each other and everything. In time, we
were like two peas in a pod. As we both chose majoring in English, we got to spend
more and more time together. I cannot not mention that I have the best class
that ever existed which had the best six people in it. In our last year, we
even opened a café in a corner of our lovely class where you could spend time talking about random stuff and blow steam off with hobbies like drawing etc. I found the perfect name for
the café. It was RaÇin Café as it was Gülçin and I who started the café business
J J She has always been
there for me I have always been there for her. And I, from the deepest part of
my heart, believe that this will always be so. A true friend, for me, is the
one that accepts you with all your imperfections. I am and will always be
thankful for her existence and friendship. Here is a picture of us and here are
two of the many songs that are very special to us.
I love you and
I always will, Horticultural...

MY FAVOURITE COUNTRY
(Free Reflection 1)
If I were given the chance to choose the place I could live in, I
would without a doubt say Canada. It has been my favorite country since last
year. I think I have got many good reasons to choose this beautiful country.
Here are some search results about
Canada:
> Human Development Index
score: 0.902
> Gross nat’l income per capita: $41,887 (19th highest)
> Life expectancy at birth: 81.5 years (14th highest)
> Expected years of schooling: 15.9 years (25th highest)*
> Gross nat’l income per capita: $41,887 (19th highest)
> Life expectancy at birth: 81.5 years (14th highest)
> Expected years of schooling: 15.9 years (25th highest)*
Human development index score is especially
good because of its great educational system. Almost everyone over 25 has a
secondary education. Also,
the average performance of 15 year olds in math, science, and reading were
among the best in the world in 2012. Canada’s national health insurance system
covers medically necessary procedures, providing nearly all Canadians with
access to medical care.*
Life expectancy is
also among world's best, being 81.5 years.
I love Canada because
of its people mostly. They are selfless and live in peace in their country.
They don't tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind. That is the kind of
place one would want to live in. I want to mention the ministries of Canada who
are very competent people. Minister of science, Kirsty Duncan is a scientist
woman who won a Nobel Prize in 2007. Jane Philpott, minister of health, is a
real doctor. Minister of transport, Marc Garneu is the first Canadian astronaut
to go to space. There is a handicapped member in the cabinet. There is even the
ministry of environment and ‘climate change’. There is a Muslim immigrant woman
in the cabinet. She is Maryam Monsef, the minister of democratic institutions.
That clearly shows that people are not discriminated against their religions
and that everyone is respected regardless of their religious views. Half the
cabinet are men and the other half are women. There are people from other
nationalities in the cabinet. For instance, the minister of national defence,
Harjit Sajjan is Indian.
Most importantly,
I should tell you a little bit about the Prime minister, Justin
Trudeau. He was born in Ottawa in 1971, December 25. He is the 23rd and current prime
minister of Canada. He is the leader of Liberal party. His party got the
victory in 2015 federal election. He is the second youngest prime minister of
Canada.
He
says he is a feminist and he is proud to be so.He is very supportive of LGBT.
He is very sensitive about the freedom of the press.
Canada welcomed many Syrian
refugees so far and Canadians have been very supportive to them. I think this
is the most important thing in the world. Standing up for and helping the
weak ones.
“So much of politics is fleeting and
ephemeral. But the connections you make with the people who invest their hope
and trust in you, that's what gets you through all of the rest. That's what
makes it worth doing.”

REFLECTION TASK 3
The
Person of the year: Nikola Tesla
Were
I to choose the person of the year, I would definitely go for Nikola Tesla. Did
you know that if it had not been for him, we would not be able to do the things
we are easily doing now, for we would not have electricity? I mean, it is
correct that Thomas Edison invented it and lit up a light bulb, but it was
Tesla who found a way to distribute it. He is the one we should be thanking for
radios, remote controls, neon and fluorescent lights, wireless transmission,
computers, smartphones, laser beams, x-rays, robotics and, of course,
alternating current, the basis of our present-day electrical system.
Unknown fact: Edison told him he would share the money he would
earn when they found a way to distribute the electricity, and when Tesla achieved
in this, Edison refused to give him any money.
He was the only inventor to refuse to accept the Nobel Prize. He
did not want to share the prize with Edison.
Once I came across a post that said he was very well ahead of his
time and when I opened the link, I was amazed by him. He has always been compared
to Thomas Edison, and they have been in hot debates over the years.
What is with the Alternate
Current (AC)?
During the war of the currents, alternating current (AC) --
favored by Tesla -- battled for wide acceptance with direct current (DC),
favored by Edison. At stake was the basis for the entire nation’s electrical
system. Edison launched a campaign against AC, claiming it was dangerous and
could kill people; Tesla countered by publicly subjecting himself to
250,000-volt shocks to demonstrate AC’s safety. Ultimately, alternating current
won the fight.
I should probably tell you a little bit about his life. Tesla was born on July 10, 1856, in the Austrian Empire. He was the fourth of five children. After an academic career in Europe, he worked as a telegraph drafter and electrician before moving to the United States to work for Thomas Edison in 1884. He lived in New York for 60 years. There is a corner in Manhattan designed as his corner because it is close to the laboratory he worked in in 1900 while building his now-infamous Tesla Tower on Long Island. His purpose of building the tower was to supply free and wireless electricity to the world.
Tesla
was not a savvy businessman and suffered financially, despite his achievements.
He lost financial backing from Morgan, who felt he couldn’t profit from Tesla’s
wireless electricity concept, and sold his assets to make up for dual
foreclosures on Wardenclyffe. The property was later sold to a film processing
company. In 1917, the U.S. government demolished Tesla’s partially completed
tower because it worried German spies would use it to intercept communications
during World War I. His long-abandoned Long Island laboratory will soon become
a museum. Earlier this year, a non-profit organization raised enough money to
purchase the long-abandoned Wardenclyffe. The group plans to restore the
building and turn it into a Tesla museum and science education center. *
I
could never give you enough information about Tesla’s achievements and his
perfect mind, so I suggest you click on that link and see for yourself how
great a man he was.

NEW GIRL SEASON 1
TRAILER
(Reflection Task 2B)
Above is the very first trailer of one of my favourite TV
shows, New Girl. In the video, we can see how it all started. Jess, the lead in
the series is the girl talking about her betrayal and her decision to move in
with three guys who are totally different from each other. She says she
is sick of living with her model friend, the friends of whom are only models.
She is ready to do anything to convince those three guys to let her move
in. I should probably tell you a little bit about these fellows.
Jess is a teacher in a primary school. As she mentions in the video,
she sings to herself sometimes, and I have to say that she is very talented,
though Nick, Schmidt and Couch who are the residents of the flat aren't really
into her singing all the time. Jess is a great person, she is no ordinary girl
in anyway. She has a song for herself. It goes like this:
So, let me
talk about the other guys. Schmidt is the one who got Jess in and persuaded
other for Jess' moving. He is into girls, he can be ridiculous sometimes
to get girls to like him. Nick is the one who dropped out of college because he
was too lazy to major in law. He does not approve of Jess’ moving in. He is a
pretty fun guy, too. And Coach is the one who is super athletic and he does not
want Jess in the apartment in the first place, either.
Spoiler alert:
None of them regrets it once Jess moves into the flat J
I hope you
will start watchimg this great show after watching the trailer. Believe me, you will have a lot of fun J
Reflection
Task 2a
Hello folks, today I am
going to be reflecting my thoughts on social networking sites. I picked this
subject because it has been and will be on the front burner for a very long
time. We tend to use social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
Snapchat etc. for various purposes like posting our thoughts and letting the
world see the way we think, getting accepted by the community ---- because too
many people go online and share on these sites these days --- , and learning about what is
going on around the globe.
There are too many arguments on whether the sites
mentioned above are useful or inimical, but I think there are too many pros and
cons we can talk about when it comes to these sites. The over-usage of these
can lead to serious addictions, some people cannot stop but share what they are
doing or eating or who they are seeing. I myself am not that kind of a person.
People who spend too much time online can break away from the reality. What
they seem to ignore is that there is a whole new world out there, waiting to be
discovered. I am not saying that we
should go back to past and stop using technology. That certainly is not what I
mean. All I aim to tell you guys is that we should not exceed the limits where
we cannot tell whether something is real or not. We should use these tools in
moderate amounts.
Fortunately, there are things that we can do to lessen the usage
of the social networking sites. We can start using them less often. We can try
and stop checking them the moment we wake up or before we sleep. We can go to
bed without them which would make it easier for us to fall asleep.
I sincerely hope this piece
of writing of mine has been even slightly helpful and fruitful.
Thank you for sparing time
and reading J
